Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy OUT of T20 Series: Team India has suffered two major setbacks ahead of the fourth match of the ongoing five-match T20 International series against England (India tour of England). Star fast bowler Harshit Rana and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy have been ruled out of the entire T20 series. Both players are grappling with hamstring injuries, preventing them from participating in the remaining matches of the series.
There is also concern that both players are highly likely to miss the upcoming ODI series as well. This raises a significant question: what options does Team India have left in England for the final matches? Let’s look at the full scenario.
Will BCCI Announce Squad Replacements for Final T20Is?
Team India has already lost the ongoing series against England. Furthermore, with the final match scheduled for July 11, very little time remains. Consequently, it is highly unlikely that the cricket board (BCCI) will send a new player from India to England as a replacement.
However, the final match is crucial for India in terms of retaining its number-one T20 ranking. If the team management requires an immediate replacement, their only option is to draft two players from the ODI squad, which has already arrived in England, into the T20 team. It is worth noting that the ODI series begins on July 14, and the ODI squad members have already reached England.
Who Will Replace Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy
If the management decides to include players from the ODI squad in the T20 lineup, the following three players could be the top contenders:
3. Gurnoor Brar - The Pace Alternative for Harshit Rana

Team India could allow the tall, young fast bowler Gurnoor Brar to replace pacer Harshit Rana. Gurnoor possesses the ability to generate pace and extra bounce, which could prove highly effective in English conditions.

Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav is an excellent option to strengthen the spin department in place of Varun Chakaravarthy. Kuldeep brings extensive and impressive experience in T20 cricket. Although he hasn't been in his best form recently, his talent is unquestionable.
1. Jasprit Bumrah

If the management wishes to bolster the pace attack rather than opting for a spinner, there is no better choice than Jasprit Bumrah. Including Bumrah in the team would not only strengthen India's bowling lineup but also provide him with valuable match practice ahead of the ODI series.
Jasprit Bumrah has not played a professional match since IPL 2026. He played his last match on May 20, meaning he has been away from the field for nearly 50 days. The T20 match on July 11, scheduled just before the ODI series begins on July 14, could prove to be a golden opportunity for him to regain his rhythm.
