Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have suffered a setback in IPL 2025, as top-order batsman Devdutt Padikkal has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury. The Bengaluru-based franchise, sitting second on the points table just behind Gujarat Titans on the basis of net run rate, acted immediately and replaced Padikkal with Mayank Agarwal for the remainder of the tournament.

This campaign won’t be the same without you, Dev. Heal up fast, we’ll keep the fight on, and wait for your comeback next year,… pic.twitter.com/Z4KJ1LkxfG
Padikkal, who had a disappointing last IPL season, found his form this season batting at No. 3 for RCB. He scored 247 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 150.61 - his best performance in any IPL season - and also hit two half-centuries before the season ended midway due to injury.
In his place, RCB has included experienced player Mayank Agarwal in the team. 34-year-old Agarwal has participated in 127 IPL matches in his career and has scored one century and 13 half-centuries. Agarwal started his IPL journey with RCB and has since represented several franchises.

His performance with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 was quiet and he scored just 64 runs in four matches. After remaining unsold in the last auction, Agarwal has now joined RCB for a fee of Rs 1 crore and is expected to show something special at the end of the season.
