Bangladesh has announced its squad for the Women's T20 World Cup. The tournament will be played in England from June 12 to July 5. A 15-member squad has been announced under the captaincy of Nigar Sultana. Nigar Sultana will captain Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup for the third consecutive time. Top-order batter Taj Nahar makes a return to the Bangladesh squad, while Sharmin Sultana, who recently played in the series against Sri Lanka, has been left out of the team.
Team Chief Selector Sajjad Ahmed stated that Nehar was preferred over Sarmin due to her versatility. Nehar is capable of batting at any position in the order, from number 1 to number 6. She possesses the ability to score runs rapidly in the final overs. Led by Nigar Sultana—who captained the team in the 2023 and 2024 editions—this squad features a blend of both young and experienced players. Among the experienced players is Fahima Khatun, who is set to play in her seventh T20 World Cup. In addition to Fahima, Nahida Akter, Ritu Moni, and Captain Nigar have been part of the team since 2016. The current squad includes 11 players who participated in the 2024 T20 World Cup held in the UAE.
The Bangladesh team will depart for Edinburgh on May 25. There, the team will play a tri-series against Scotland and the Netherlands. Following this, they will play warm-up matches for the T20 World Cup. In the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh is placed in Group 1 alongside the Netherlands, Australia, Pakistan, India, and South Africa. The team will play its first match against the Netherlands at Edgbaston on June 14.
