Cricket Australia has decided to pull out of the ODI series against Afghanistan in March in response to increasing Taliban restrictions on the education and employment of women and girls. The Australian mens team was due to face Afghanistan in three ODIs in the United Arab Emirates as part of the ICC Super League but the series will not go ahead as planned following Thursdays announcement.
Australia refuses to play three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, The Australia cricket team will not play the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE in March this year. Cricket Australia has decided to withdraw from the series. This is because the Taliban had recently announced restrictions related to the education and employment of women and girls.
The three-match ODI series between Australia and Afghanistan was to be played under the ICC ODI Super League. The effect of Cricket Australias withdrawal of the series is that Afghanistan will get 30 points from the series. Cricket Australia issued a statement on its official website explaining why they took this decision. CA said it remains committed to supporting the progress of the mens and womens game globally, including in Afghanistan.

Cricket Australia said on Taliban, the decision follows the Talibans recent announcement of further restrictions on women and girls education and employment opportunities and their ability to access parks and gyms. CA is committed to supporting the growing sport for women and men around the world, including Afghanistan. At the same time, we will continue to support the Afghanistan Cricket Board in the hope of better conditions for women and girls. We thank the Australian Government for their support on this matter.
The Taliban recently banned teenage girls from attending school and barred women from attending university in Afghanistan. It was a decision that is being widely criticized around the world. Cricket Australia said in a statement – After extensive discussions with stakeholders, including the Australian Government, Cricket Australia has decided that it will not host the match between Australia and Afghanistan scheduled for the United Arab Emirates in March 2023. Unable to play in the upcoming ICC Super League three-match ODI series.
Ahmadullah Wasiq, deputy head of the Talibans cultural commission, said in a statement in September 2021 that sports were not necessary for women. He had said – In cricket he may face a situation where his face and body will not be covered. Islam does not allow women to be seen like this. In such a situation, the CA has condemned the Talibans decision to immediately ban the participation of women in the game.
