Australia refuses to play three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, Cricket Australia condemns Taliban's decisions

Cricket Australia has decided to pull out of the ODI series against Afghanistan in March in response to increasing Taliban restrictions on the education and employment of women and girls. The Australian mens team was due to face Afghanistan in three ODIs in the United Arab Emirates as part of the ICC Super League but the series will not go ahead as planned following Thursdays announcement.

Cricket Australia has decided to withdraw from the series. This is because the Taliban had recently announced restrictions related to the education and employment of women and girls.

The three-match ODI series between Australia and Afghanistan was to be played under the ICC ODI Super League. The effect of Cricket Australias withdrawal of the series is that Afghanistan will get 30 points from the series. Cricket Australia issued a statement on its official website explaining why they took this decision. CA said it remains committed to supporting the progress of the mens and womens game globally, including in Afghanistan.

Cricket Australia said on Taliban, the decision follows the Talibans recent announcement of further restrictions on women and girls education and employment opportunities and their ability to access parks and gyms. Many restrictions on women in Afghanistan

The Taliban recently banned teenage girls from attending school and barred women from attending university in Afghanistan. It was a decision that is being widely criticized around the world. Cricket Australia said in a statement – After extensive discussions with stakeholders, including the Australian Government, Cricket Australia has decided that it will not host the match between Australia and Afghanistan scheduled for the United Arab Emirates in March 2023.
