Before the Southampton match, Jos Buttler was just shy of Rohit Sharma's record of 4,231 runs. Opening the batting, he displayed aggressive strokeplay, smashing 80 runs off just 44 balls. His explosive innings featured 8 fours and 3 sixes.
With this innings, Buttler has now amassed 4,292 runs in 161 T20I matches. He holds a batting average of 34.33, with 2 centuries and 29 half-centuries to his name.

- England's innings was not limited to Buttler alone. Buttler combined with captain Harry Brook to forge a strong 128-run partnership for the second wicket. Brook put the Sri Lankan bowlers on the back foot by playing a blistering, unbeaten century, scoring 114 runs off just 49 balls.
- Powered by the magnificent performances of both batters, England posted a massive total of 254 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.
- Chasing a massive target of 255 runs, the Sri Lankan team crumbled under pressure right from the start. Apart from Dunith Wellalage's battling knock of 33 runs, no batsman could stay at the crease for long, and the entire team was bowled out for 135 runs in 19 overs.
- For England, fast bowler Sonny Baker bowled superbly, taking 3 wickets for 12 runs, while Jamie Overton and Liam Dawson claimed 2 wickets each. With this emphatic 119-run victory, England recorded their 13th consecutive T20I win against Sri Lanka.
