The picture has become clear regarding the Asia Cup 2023. On Thursday, June 15, the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) released the Asia Cup 2023 schedule. The tournament will be held from 31 August to 17 September.
The dates of Asia Cup 2023 have been announced. The Asian Cricket Council gave this information. The tournament will be held from August 31 to September 17. Teams of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal will play a total of 13 ODIs. The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model, with four matches being played in Pakistan and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka. Asia Cup matches will be played in Pakistan after 15 years. Pakistan last hosted the Asia Cup in 2008 when Sri Lanka became the champions after defeating India in the final.
The BCCI and the PCB were at loggerheads over hosting the tournament. For this reason, the schedule of this tournament has not been released till now. The Asia Cup 2023 was hosted by Pakistan, but the BCCI is not ready to send its team here. For this reason, there was talk of organizing this tournament in another country, where all the countries participating in this tournament were ready to send their teams, but the Pakistan Cricket Board was not ready to give up hosting the Asia Cup. In such a situation, a middle way was found and now this tournament is being organized in hybrid model. Now the Pakistan team will play its league matches in Pakistan, while the Super Four matches and the Indian team matches will be played in Sri Lanka. The final match will also be held in Sri Lanka.
It may be noted that a total of 6 matches will be played in the Super-4 round. After this, two teams will reach the final and the title match will be played between them. In this way, a total of 13 matches including the final will be played in Asia Cup 2023. The final match is likely to be played in Sri Lanka on 17 September.
After the decision of the Indian team not to go to Pakistan, Pakistan had discussed with the ACC about the hybrid model. This model has been accepted. The Indian team will play its matches in the Asia Cup on the hybrid model. India, Nepal and Pakistan have been placed in the same group. At the same time, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have been included in the second group. Two teams each from both the groups will reach the Super-4.
