5 Expensive Flop Players Of Indian Premier League 2024

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is already halfway through its 17th season. This season has already seen numerous spectacular performances, with rising stars shining as brightly as some of the best of all time. However, there is one elite group whose overall influence has yet to have a significant impact on the competition. With one noteworthy exception, the top ten most expensive players in the IPL 2024 Auction have had poor overall performance and are currently dropping.

5 Expensive Flop Players Of Indian Premier League 2024

1. Mitchell Starc: 24.75 cr (KKR)

Mitchell Starc hasn't lived up to his reputation as one of the greatest players in limited-overs cricket; he's been bad and unreliable with the new ball. With an economy rate of 9.8, he has also been costly with only three wickets in the powerplay. Starc has not contributed to the tournament, save from his efforts against the Capitals and Super Giants, and has gone wicketless in four of the last six innings during this round of play. He has just recently returned, having taken five wickets from six games at an economy of 10.5 and an average of 46.4. Starc has also been thoroughly embarrassed in the last overs, as he has been hit for 64 runs in only 24 deliveries. After Anrich Nortje and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, his economy of 16.25 in the final 4 overs is the third-worst for a bowler (min. 4 overs).

2. Daryl Mitchell: 14 cr (CSK)

After an outstanding performance with the bat for New Zealand in the 2023 World Cup, Daryl Mitchell entered the IPL this season with high hopes. Mitchell, who cost a staggering INR 14 crore at the 2024 auction, has only scored 135 runs overall for CSK in six innings with a strike rate of 125 and a maximum score of 34. He hasn't even given one noteworthy at-bat performance. It's noteworthy to note that Mitchell has struggled against speed, scoring at a mere 113.4 despite being removed three times in six innings.

3. Harshal Patel: 11.75 cr (PBKS)

In the death overs, Harshal Patel excels at foxing the hitters with his variety of slower deliveries. Nevertheless, this season has been a nightmare for the former RCB seamer, who has given up 15 runs per over in the previous four overs and taken just one wicket in five innings. Except for his match against the Sunrisers at Mullanpur, in all five of his other outings, Harshal has given up more than ten runs per over.

4. Alzarri Joseph: 11.5 cr (RCB)

Alzarri Following his lacklustre performance in RCB's opening three matches, Joseph has not been included in the starting lineup. The West Indian seamer, who is being destroyed at an average of 11.89 per over, has only managed to claim one single wicket. In addition to failing to make any progress with the new ball, Joseph has been destroyed everywhere at the end.

5. Spencer Johnson: 10 cr (GT)

Spencer Johnson, the sensational left-arm pacer from Australia, has disappeared from the tournament scene following an outstanding display in the final overs against the Mumbai Indians and some restrained bowling against the Super Kings. In three games, Johnson has only taken one further wicket despite maintaining a run rate of more than nine per over.
