David Warner had said goodbye to international cricket after the T20 World Cup-2024. He also officially announced his retirement by writing a post on Instagram a few days ago. But in the same post, Warner also expressed his desire to return. He wrote that if the selectors want, he can return to play in the Champions Trophy next year. Now the Chief Selector of Cricket Australia has given his opinion on this matter.
While announcing his retirement, Warner had said that he would continue playing franchise cricket. And if he is selected for the Champions Trophy, he is ready to play. But Chief Selector George Bailey has dashed his hopes.
Bailey has made it clear that the selectors have drawn a line regarding Warner's selection. He said, 'Our understanding is that David Warner has retired and he should be praised for his performance in all three formats. His career has been fantastic, it cannot be celebrated more than this. I think as time goes by, his legacy will be remembered.'
Warner is counted among the great batsmen of Australia. He was successful in winning three World Cups with the team. Warner was part of the World Cup won by Australia in 2015 and 2019. At the same time, Australia also won the T20 World Cup played in the year 2021 and he was part of the team. Warner played 112 Test matches for Australia in which he scored 8786 runs. He represented the team in 161 ODIs and scored 6932 runs. Warner also played 110 T20 matches for Australia in which he scored 3277 runs.
