The controversy around Ranveer Singh’s Don 3 exit has now escalated into one of Bollywood’s biggest industry flashpoints of 2026. What started as a quiet departure from Farhan Akhtar’s highly anticipated action thriller has snowballed into a full-blown industry dispute, with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issuing a non-cooperation directive against the actor and Excel Entertainment reportedly seeking Rs 45 crore in damages.
The dramatic fallout has sent shockwaves across the Hindi film industry, raising serious questions about accountability, contractual commitments, and whether even Bollywood’s biggest stars can walk away from projects without consequences.
Why FWICE Took Action Against Ranveer Singh?
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees has accused Ranveer Singh of failing to appear before the union despite receiving three reminders over several weeks.
According to FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, the matter was formally brought before the federation after filmmaker Farhan Akhtar filed a complaint on April 11, alleging that Ranveer exited Don 3 just three weeks before the shooting unit was scheduled to depart.
FWICE officials stated that both Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani presented their side of the story, detailing the extensive pre-production efforts already completed for the film. These reportedly included overseas location bookings, hotel arrangements, travel logistics for more than 200 crew members, and other audited production expenses.
The federation claims all expenditures were documented, verified, and substantial enough to justify formal intervention.
Excel Entertainment Demands Rs 45 Crore
At the centre of the dispute is the reported Rs 45 crore compensation demand made by Excel Entertainment.
FWICE claims Ranveer Singh had signed a three-film agreement with the production house and had actively participated in Don 3’s development process. This allegedly included location recce visits, script discussions, and even filming a promotional announcement for the project.
According to the federation, Ranveer’s sudden withdrawal created massive logistical and financial disruption.
FWICE President BN Tiwari made it clear that the body’s decision was intended to send a larger message to the industry.
The union has now directed its members, including technicians, spot boys, vanity van suppliers, and other essential workers, not to collaborate with the actor until he personally appears before the body.
That decision could potentially affect not only feature films but also commercial endorsements and upcoming projects linked to the actor.
Ranveer Singh’s Official Response
Ranveer Singh has not personally commented on the controversy, but his spokesperson released a carefully worded response.
The statement emphasised that the actor holds deep respect for the film fraternity and everyone associated with the Don franchise. It also noted that Ranveer has consciously maintained silence, choosing to handle professional disagreements with dignity rather than public speculation.
His team further argued that FWICE does not have legal jurisdiction over the matter and reportedly offered to send his secretary for discussions instead of requiring the actor’s personal appearance.
That response, however, appears to have further intensified tensions with the federation.
Ranveer Singh exited Don 3 in December 2025 after nearly two years of association with the project.
Industry reports suggest the actor cited creative differences and concerns over script changes as the primary reason behind his departure.
The timing proved especially controversial because the exit came shortly after the blockbuster success of his spy thriller Dhurandhar, which had cemented his status as one of Bollywood’s biggest box-office draws.
Farhan Akhtar later acknowledged the setback in an interview, saying the episode taught him to expect the unexpected in filmmaking.
Despite the tough stand, FWICE leaders repeatedly acknowledged Ranveer Singh’s contribution to Indian cinema and his box-office pull.
But their message was unambiguous: stardom cannot place anyone above industry accountability.
As the Ranveer Singh Don 3 exit row continues to unfold, Bollywood is watching closely. Whether this ends in reconciliation, legal escalation, or a wider industry reset, one thing is certain: this controversy has already changed the conversation around commitment and contracts in Hindi cinema.
