West Bengal Election Results: Following the TMC crushing defeat, Mamata Banerjee herself lost

The West Bengal election results witnessed a major upset. Following the TMC's crushing defeat, the party chief and Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, also suffered a personal defeat. She lost the election from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee by a margin of 15,105 votes in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, located in West Bengal's capital, Kolkata. This outcome is being viewed as a significant message to the voters of Bengal.

Shubhendu Defeats Mamata After a Fierce Contest-

It is noteworthy that the Bhabanipur Assembly seat was considered a stronghold of Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee had previously won elections from this very seat. Therefore, a defeat in Bhabanipur could prove to be a major setback for both the TMC and Mamata Banerjee. Throughout the election trends, there were frequent fluctuations in the lead between Mamata Banerjee and Shubhendu Adhikari; however, by securing a significant lead in the final few rounds, Shubhendu Adhikari ultimately defeated Mamata Banerjee.

Defeat by a Margin of Over 15,000 Votes-

In Bhabanipur, voters cast 73,917 votes in favor of Shubhendu Adhikari, while Mamata Banerjee had to settle for just 58,812 votes. The fact that there was a direct, head-to-head contest between Shubhendu Adhikari and Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur is clearly evident from the vote counts of the candidates who finished in third and fourth place, who received only 3,566 and 1,257 votes, respectively. In this direct electoral battle in Bhabanipur, Shubhendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee.

Where Did the TMC Go Wrong in the Bengal Elections?

It is widely believed that this time, factors such as anti-incumbency sentiment in West Bengal, the law and order situation, the BJP's aggressive election strategy, and local issues collectively altered the electoral equations against the TMC. Furthermore, the impact of the BJP's organizational strength and its vigorous election campaign was also clearly visible.
