Iran and the US Aim to End the Conflict: Efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran have now intensified. However, Iran and the US have not yet reached a final conclusion. Meanwhile, an energy crisis persists for other nations that rely on countries in the Middle East.
Is the ongoing war between the US and Iran about to end?
Citing Iran's news agency, IRNA, Reuters reported on Sunday that Iran has delivered its response to a U.S. proposal aimed at ending a conflict that has been ongoing for over two months. This response was conveyed through Pakistan, which is playing a pivotal role in mediating this dispute. A source familiar with the matter told IRNA that, according to Iran's proposal, the current round of negotiations will focus exclusively on halting combat and hostilities in the region.
Both Nations Seek to Reach an Interim Agreement-
Sharing information obtained from both sides, Reuters reported that these latest peace initiatives aim to reach an interim agreement—specifically a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)—in order to halt the fighting and allow for the resumption of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, both nations intend to discuss a comprehensive and more detailed agreement. The objective of this comprehensive agreement would be to resolve complex disputes, such as those surrounding Iran's nuclear program.
U.S.-Iran Conflict Hangs in a Precarious Ceasefire-
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran. This attack resulted in the death of the then-Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Subsequently, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, assumed the position of Supreme Leader. Since then, Iran has retaliated in kind against every attack launched by the United States and Israel.
Furthermore, by imposing a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has plunged nations across the globe into an economic crisis. As of May 10, the conflict between the United States and Iran remains in a precarious state of ceasefire. Both nations are currently striving to reach a peace agreement; however, one round of peace talks has already concluded without yielding any concrete results. These negotiations took place in Islamabad, Pakistan.
