FC Lokomotiv Sofia is a Bulgarian professional football club based in Sofia that currently competes in the 'First League,' the top tier of Bulgarian football.
Established in 1929 as a 'Railway Sports Club' and reformed in 2015 following bankruptcy, the club has played its matches at 'Stadion Lokomotiv' since 1985.
The original Lokomotiv won four league titles and four Bulgarian Cups. Through impressive performances both domestically and internationally, Lokomotiv established itself as one of Bulgaria's top clubs. The club has spent the majority of its history in the top-flight 'First League' (formerly known as 'A Group'), though it faced occasional setbacks—such as a brief merger with 'Slavia Sofia' in 1969 and an administrative relegation to a lower league in 2015 due to financial difficulties. Following the 2015 financial crisis, the original club was declared bankrupt and has since remained inactive. The newly formed 'FC Lokomotiv 1929 Sofia' is considered the unofficial successor; however, according to the Bulgarian Football Union, it is not recognized as the legitimate holder of the original club's honors and history.
Lokomotiv traditionally plays in shirts featuring red and black stripes.
