He impressed the selectors with his form in his first Ranji Trophy season of 2005-06, which then called for his selection in the Duleep Trophy of 2006-07.

He joined the rebel league in 2007 and gave swashbuckling performances. After the closure of the league, he joined the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL. He was then signed by the Pune Warriors India, a newly formed franchise in the fourth IPL edition in 2011 before being bought by the Deccan Chargers in the fifth season the following year.
