PAK Docked 50% Match Fee & 11 Points: The Pakistan cricket team's woes show no signs of abating. After suffering a crushing 8-wicket defeat in the third and final Test match against England in Birmingham, the visiting team faced a 0-3 series whitewash. Immediately following this dismal performance, the International Cricket Council (ICC) dealt a double blow to the Pakistan team by imposing a fine on their match fees and levying a heavy penalty of points on the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

The ICC has fined Pakistan 50 percent of their match fees for failing to complete their overs within the allotted time during the Edgbaston Test. Additionally, 11 crucial points have been deducted from the team's tally in the current World Test Championship cycle.
According to the official ICC release, the Pakistan team was found to be 11 overs short of the target within the stipulated time. ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed the sanction following formal charges leveled by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Allahudien Paleker, and fourth umpire Russell Warren. No formal hearing was required as the captain admitted to the offense.
Strict Penalties Enforced Under ICC Regulations
The key rules governing this penalty under the ICC Code of Conduct are as follows:
- Match Fee Fine (Article 2.22): Under minimum over-rate offense rules, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for every over short, up to a maximum limit of 50 percent. As the team was 11 overs short, the maximum fine of 50% was imposed.
- WTC Points Penalty (Article 16.11.2): Under World Test Championship regulations, one penalty point is deducted from the team's total for every over short. In this regard, 11 crucial points have been deducted from Pakistan's tally.

WTC Points Table Scenario: Pakistan Drops to Bottom Position

The entire arithmetic of the World Test Championship points table has changed following this 11-point penalty and the 0-3 series defeat against England. After suffering seven losses in nine matches and accumulating a total of 19 penalty points, the Pakistan team has slipped to the bottom (ninth) spot on the table. The team is now left with just 5 points, and their points percentage (PCT) has plummeted to a mere 4.63%, effectively ending their hopes of reaching the final.
Meanwhile, Australia holds the top spot on the points table with a PCT of 80.00%, while South Africa (75.00%) and New Zealand (72.22%) remain in second and third place, respectively. The Indian team sits in 5th place with a PCT of 51.52%, while the England team having defeated Pakistan occupies the 6th spot with 7 wins from 16 matches and a PCT of 38.54%.
