Women's Asia Cup 2026: ICC sanctions Indian pacer Kranti Gaur after title win; fined 10% of match fee
The Indian women's cricket team clinched the Women's Asia Cup title for a record eighth time by defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final held in Dubai. Immediately following this magnificent victory, Indian fast bowler Kranti Gaur was fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
Why was Kranti Gaur fined?
In the very first over of Sri Lanka's innings, after dismissing opposing opener Imesha Dulani, Kranti Gaur made an aggressive gesture directing the batter towards the pavilion.
- Kranti was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 (Level 1) of the ICC Code of Conduct. This rule prohibits the use of language, actions, or gestures upon a batter's dismissal that could provoke an aggressive reaction.
- The ICC has imposed a fine of 10 percent of her match fee.
- One demerit point has also been added to her disciplinary record. This was her first offense in the last 24 months.
- Kranti accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Supriya Rani Das, thereby negating the need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Salima Imtiaz and Shathira Jakir Jesy had leveled the charges.
Pakistan team also fined for slow over-rate
In a separate incident, the Pakistan team was fined 5 percent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during the semi-final match against Sri Lanka.
- Match Referee G.S. After taking time allowances into account, Lakshmi found Pakistan to be one over short of the target rate.
- In accordance with ICC Article 2.22, players are fined 5% of their match fee for each slow over.
- Captain Fatima Sana admitted the offense and accepted the sanction.
