According to Devajit Saikia, while the board is certainly interested in the idea of expanding the tournament in the future, implementing it under current circumstances is not easy. Fans will continue to witness the excitement of 74 matches in the upcoming season as well.
3 major reasons for not increasing the number of matches
- Impact on the international calendar: Adding 20 extra matches would require extending the IPL window, which would disrupt the schedules of bilateral series involving other nations and ICC tournaments.
- Availability of overseas players: If the tournament is prolonged, players from countries like Australia, England, and South Africa would not be available for the entire season, thereby upsetting the balance of the franchise teams.
- Interests of other boards: The BCCI does not wish to interfere with the international schedules and player workloads of other cricket boards around the world.

The BCCI Secretary indicated that the possibility of moving to 94 matches in future years, depending on circumstances, cannot be ruled out. However, given that only 74 matches can be conveniently organized within the current two-month window, the board will proceed with the existing format for the time being.
