IND vs WIWest Indies captain Shai Hope has wreaked havoc during the tour of India. He has smashed a total of four centuries across the ODI and T20 series combined. The West Indies team emerged victorious in three of the matches in which he scored a century, and on each of those occasions, Shai Hope was named 'Player of the Match.' However, these very 'Player of the Match' awards have become a source of trouble for him.
While players are usually delighted to win a 'Player of the Match' award—and Shai Hope is indeed happy—these accolades have also brought him some concern, a fact he revealed following the T20 match in Hyderabad.
Why is Shai Hope concerned about his 'Player of the Match' awards?
Shai Hope has won three 'Player of the Match' awards during the tour of India. Commenting on this, he said, "These 'Player of the Match' trophies are quite heavy. We’ll have to re-check the weight of our luggage.
I think I might face some trouble on the way home." It is worth noting that there are strict weight limits for luggage when traveling by air, and exceeding these limits can cause difficulties for passengers which is exactly what Shai Hope was referring to.
Shai Hope’s Record-Breaking Performance
Shai Hope was named Player of the Match in the third ODI against India. He subsequently earned the same honor in the second T20I, and has now secured the Player of the Match award in the fourth T20I as well. Notably, Hope amassed 278 runs across three matches in the ODI series, maintaining an average of 139.
In the ongoing T20I series, he has already scored 261 runs in four innings at an average exceeding 130. Indian bowlers have simply been unable to dismiss him. If this trend continues, Hope is set to remain in explosive form even on the batting-friendly pitch in Bengaluru—and the Indian team will likely have to pay the price
