Few people predicted the US cricket team would make history by making it to the Super 8s when they qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024. They did, however, carry out their plans quite well, earning a spot in the Super 8s, where they will take against South Africa on Wednesday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
The US cricket team faces the Proteas in the Super 8s, and the White House has sent them a special greeting before this big match.
On their official X account, the USA Cricket Team posted a video of National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby praising and applauding them on their accomplishments in the prestigious T20 World Cup.
Their tweet said, 'Thank you @WhiteHouse National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby for your kind words. We’ll be sure to use your encouragement as motivation for our upcoming matches in the West Indies!'
Kirby can be heard speaking to the media during a news conference, and when questioned about the USA team's remarkable and unexpected win, he commented on his and President Joe Biden's excitement.
'We all congratulate them on their achievements. It's fantastic, and we're all cheering them on. Congratulations, I see they are currently in the Super Eight. 'It's amazing,' Kirby said.
The United States, making their debut in the ICC T20 World Cup, opened their campaign with an excellent 7-wicket victory against Canada at Dallas' Grand Prairie Stadium. Their next assignment was against the 2009 winners, Pakistan, which presented the co-hosts with a daunting job. Despite being underdogs, the USA came out firing on all cylinders to upset Babar Azam's squad in front of a crowded Grand Prairie Stadium.
The USA bowlers held Pakistan to 159 for 7, then levelled the score to force a Super Over. Mohammad Amir, Pakistan's premier bowler, delivered the Super Over, allowing 18 runs in an eight-ball over against the USA.
In response, the United States held Pakistan to 13/1, winning the dramatic Super Over and adding two important points to their total. Following the game, USA captain Monank Patel explained how his squad successfully restrained the Green Shirts.
The United States advanced to the tournament's Super 8s even though their final Group match against Ireland was rained out at Broward County Stadium in Florida.
Along with India, which won Group A with 7 points from four matches, the United States qualified for the Super Eights by coming second in the group with 5 points from four matches.
