India vs China Women's Hockey Gold Medal Match: A peculiar incident occurred involving the Indian women's hockey team on the 13th day of the Asian Games. En route to the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium for the gold medal match against China, the team buses of both India and China got stuck in a massive traffic jam.
Due to this delay, the scheduled start time of the match has been pushed back by 45 minutes. According to an official announcement at the stadium, the match originally slated to begin at 3:00 PM or 3:30 PM (Indian Standard Time) will now commence at 4:15 PM.
Road accident causes major traffic jam
As both teams were heading to the venue, a road accident occurred along the route. While the accident did not directly involve the teams' buses, it resulted in a massive traffic jam.
Consequently, the players from both teams could not reach the stadium on time. A decision was made to delay the start of the match to ensure the players had sufficient time for their warm-ups and mental preparation.
Team India Set to End 44-Year Title Drought
This final match is crucial for the Indian women's hockey team. In the history of the Asian Games, the Indian women's team has won the gold medal only once—back in 1982. Since then, India has been waiting 44 years to clinch the gold again.
India previously had to settle for silver after losing finals to South Korea in 1998 and Japan in 2018. Now, the Indian team has a golden opportunity to end this 44-year title drought by defeating the defending champions, China.
Victory Secures Direct Ticket to 2028 Olympics
It is not just the gold medal that is at stake in this match; a direct ticket to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is also on the line.
According to Asian Games regulations, the team that wins the women's hockey gold medal will qualify directly for the Olympic Games. Consequently, this match serves as a major platform for the Indian team to secure a direct path to the Olympics
