Following consecutive losses for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 season, skipper Hardik Pandya and team guru Sachin Tendulkar came forth to encourage the group.
Mumbai Indians faced a 31-run loss during an exciting encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad that created new IPL records for the highest total score and the most sixes in a game.
523 runs and 38 sixes were scored in the match, which was contested at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Sunrisers Hyderabad established an all-time best with a total of 277/3. In a daring reply, the Mumbai Indians scored 246/5 runs, demonstrating their tenacity.
Following the match, Sachin Tendulkar used the occasion to bolster his team's morale by emphasizing their strong performances. He emphasized that the game's conclusion remained unpredictable far into the second half, even though the opponent had scored a lot of points in the first half.
'In the second half, in spite of scoring 277, 10 overs down the line nobody knew who was a clear winner. The game was very much open. That's a clear-cut sign that we've batted really well. There are going to be tougher moments. We will stick together as a group and pull it through,' said Tendulkar.
Hardik Pandya, echoing Tendulkar's sentiments, drew on the metaphor of soldiers facing tough tests to describe the team's resilience.
He commended the team's tenacity and passion, pointing out that the players never wavered in their desire to contribute, even in the face of difficulty. Regardless of the situation, the lanky all-rounder urged the players to support one another.
'Toughest soldiers get the toughest test. And we are the toughest team in the competition. Anyone who would have come even close to where we reached, as a batting group or as just overall Mumbai Indians, are us. Something I am really proud of is our bowlers. Even when the day was tough, I didn't see no one running away. Worst. Bad. Good. We will manage it together,' added Hardik.
The Mumbai Indians will try to turn things around after suffering two straight losses to begin the IPL 2024 season. They take on the Rajasthan Royals in their season-opening home game, where they will start their winning streak.
The Wankhede Stadium will host this pivotal encounter on Monday, April 1. The Mumbai Indians will be eager to win their first game of the competition there.
