Former India batter VVS Laxman could be handed a major responsibility by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Laxman, who currently heads the Bengaluru-based Centre of Excellence (COE), is reportedly being considered for the role of Director of Cricket.
Laxman has recently been linked with two high-profile positions - India’s Test coach and chief selector. However, according to a report by India Today, the former Indian batter could instead take up a wider role within the BCCI as Director of Cricket.
The position was previously held by Ravi Shastri, who later became the head coach of the Indian team.
BCCI Eyes VVS Laxman for Director of Cricket Role
The BCCI is reportedly looking at changes to India’s cricketing structure, and Laxman could be at the centre of those plans.
As the head of the Centre of Excellence, Laxman has worked closely with young Indian players and has been involved in developing the country’s next generation of talent.
