After the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, according to former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, should think about retiring from the game's shortest format. One of the main topics of conversation building up to the World Cup was Kohli and Rohit's futures with the Indian side in Twenty20 Internationals. Before the home series against Afghanistan in January of this year, neither had participated in a Twenty20 international for more than a year.
Although Yuvraj believes that Rohit and Kohli should be able to decide their fate, it's now the turn of the younger players to step up and make an impression.
'As you become older, people forget about you and start talking about your age. 'These guys deserve to go (retire) when they want. They have been great players for India,' Yuvraj, an ICC ambassador for the T20 World Cup 2024, said.
Additionally, Yuvraj mentioned that Rohit and Kohli, who are nearing the end of their careers, have suffered since they have played all three forms.
'More youthful players in the T20 format, please. It relieves the pressure on the more seasoned players who play Test and 50-over matches. 'I hope to see a lot of younger guys join the team after this World Cup and make the T20 side for the next World Cup,' he continued.
The idea of Rohit and Kohli sharing the opening batting position during the World Cup has been discussed.
According to reports, to choose the World Cup team, the selectors will meet with head coach Rahul Dravid and player Rohit in the coming days.
Rohit is anticipated to go to Delhi for the meeting, which will occur during Saturday's Mumbai Indians vs. Delhi Capitals game.
