Auction 2027The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the dates for the new season of the Women's Premier League (WPL). For the first time, the tournament will be held in January; previously, it was conducted in February and March.
The league's fifth season will commence on January 14 and run until February 7. However, the venue for the tournament has not yet been finalized, and speculation regarding it continues. Additionally, there have been no changes to the number of participating teams for the time being.
There had been much anticipation regarding when the BCCI would make an announcement about the new WPL season. On Wednesday, September 16, the board put an end to that wait. In a press release, the BCCI announced that the 2027 WPL season would commence on January 14 and run until February 7. Furthermore, the board revealed key dates for the player auction ahead of the new season
Announcement Regarding the Auction
According to the schedule, the mini-auction for WPL 2027 will be held on October 28, 2026. This will be a one-day event, and for the first time, the famous city of Kochi in Kerala has been selected as the venue; the bidding for players will take place at the city's Grand Hyatt Hotel.
However, the player retention process will be completed exactly one month prior to this. The board has set a deadline of September 28 for this purpose, by which date all five franchises will announce their retained squads.
Big claim regarding the venue
A recent report claims that three cities have been shortlisted for the new season of the WPL. Apart from Mumbai and Vadodara, the third city on the list is Varanasi, where a new stadium has been completed.
No matches have been played at this stadium so far, and there is speculation that the BCCI might host the entire upcoming season of the league at this venue.
