IND vs WIBy defeating India in the fourth T20 match held in Hyderabad, the West Indies have injected excitement into the series. Now, they aspire to achieve something that hasn't happened for years. West Indies captain Shai Hope has shed light on this objective.
The question arises: what exactly is this objective? What is the long-awaited milestone that the West Indies are looking to reach? The answer lies in the team's performance on Indian soil specifically, their quest to win a T20 series in India.
Setting Sights on a T20 Series Win in India
How many years has it been since the West Indies won a T20 series in India? Following their victory in the Hyderabad T20, Shai Hope spoke of ending that long wait; having leveled the five-match T20 series at 2-2, he now believes that a series win is within their reach.
5th T20 in Bengaluru is a great opportunity – Shai Hope
After winning the fourth T20 in Hyderabad, West Indies white-ball captain Shai Hope stated that his team has played good cricket in every phase and needs to maintain that momentum moving forward.
He added that the fifth and final T20 will take place in Bengaluru, where they will have a chance to win the series. He emphasized that they will enter the match with that same intent and strive to give 100 percent.
The last time the West Indies won a T20 series in India was in December 2019
The West Indies last secured a T20 series victory in India seven years ago in December 2019 when they defeated India 2-1 in a three-match T20 series.
During that series, the West Indies lost the opening T20 match in Hyderabad, but they bounced back to win the subsequent two encounters in Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai.
Following the 2019 series, the West Indies returned to India in 2021 for another T20 series, where they suffered a clean sweep (losing all three matches). The current tour consists of a five-match T20 series, which is currently level at 2-2.
However, given the way the West Indies team is playing, combined with the nature and history of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, two things are clear: first, a run-fest is on the cards; and second, Team India will face a difficult challenge in trying to contain the West Indies.
