The coach of England Women cricket using AI to pick squad

Coach Jon Lewis of the England women's cricket team said on Friday that he uses artificial intelligence to help with team selection, pointing out that this technology aided his side's success in the previous season's Ashes.

Lewis first came into contact with the technology created by London-based PSi when he took over as head coach of the UP Warriorz team in the Women's Premier League of India.

The 48-year-old former England pacer now depends on the business to help him make choices about player matchups during games, squad selection, and team balance.

Projected results are generated by the algorithm according to the makeup of each side.

He said that he could submit many potential lineups to PSi in London and that the organisation would conduct, each team, I believe, roughly 250,000 simulations with all possible combinations that may arise during the game.

To get a sense of how such teams could perform against one another, we can pit simulated teams against simulated opponents.

Upon discovering it while I was a member of UP Warriorz, I considered how it would benefit the England Women's Cricket squad.

Although Lewis stated that he still supported a 'people-first approach,' he also stated that data may provide an extremely objective perspective of potential outcomes as well as historical events. In terms of pairings and selection, I believe it will help make grey judgements.

Lewis, who has discussed his application of the PSi model with England's rugby union coach Steve Borthwick, stated that the approach had shown its value when his team drew the multi-format Women's Ashes series against fierce rivals Australia last season.

Speaking during the unveiling of England's lineup for the T20 and ODI series against Pakistan later this month, Lewis stated, 'There was one selection, particularly last year, one period of the Ashes that we targeted as a team.'

'In a few instances, AI proved to be really helpful since the players I was considering selecting were both highly selectable and in excellent form, which made my decision-making process easier.
