Team India has lost the ODI series against England 1-2. This has impacted their standing in the ICC ODI rankings, although the team still retains the number one spot.

Team India has suffered a setback in the ICC rankings following the defeat against England

Team India lost the final match of the three-game ODI series against England, resulting in a series defeat. This loss has dealt a significant blow to the Indian team's position in the ICC rankings.

While the team remains at the top, their rating has dropped, putting their number-one status at risk. It is also worth noting that Team India has played four ODI series under Shubman Gill's captaincy; they won only one and lost three of them.

Significant gap between the two teams before the India vs. England ODI series

The first match of the India vs. England ODI series took place on July 14. To understand the impact, one must look at the teams' ratings and rankings on July 13—the day before the series began. On July 13, Team India held the top spot with a rating of 121, while England was ranked eighth with a rating of 89. However, the situation changed as the series progressed.

Team India's rating dropped from 121 to 116 after losing two matches in the three-game ODI series

Looking at the rankings today, July 20, the Indian team remains at number one, but their rating has fallen from 121 to 116. Meanwhile, England's rating has risen from 89 to 93, and the team has moved up from eighth to seventh place. Thus, England has benefited in terms of both rating points and ranking—moving ahead of Afghanistan.

The gap between India and New Zealand has narrowed.

As previously mentioned, India's rating is 116, while New Zealand holds the second spot with a rating of 111—meaning there is now a difference of only five points between the two. The Indian team is set to play a three-match ODI series against the West Indies in September, while New Zealand is currently playing an ODI series against the same team. Although there may not be any immediate changes, if this trend continues, it will not be easy for the Indian team to retain the top spot; they must return to winning ways to maintain their number-one ranking.
