Taskin Ahmed LPL Updates: 'SOS' call from Bangladesh team, Taskin Ahmed to join Lanka Premier League after a delay
In a major decision on Friday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) included fast bowler Taskin Ahmed in the squad for the upcoming three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe. Taskin received a sudden emergency call-up to replace the injured Mustafizur Rahman.
Due to this decision, Taskin Ahmed's entry into the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will now be delayed.
Mustafizur Rahman ruled out of tour due to injury
Lethal bowler Mustafizur Rahman sustained a right hamstring strain during the first ODI match. Consequently, he has been ruled out of all remaining matches of the Zimbabwe tour. He will now return to Bangladesh for injury rehabilitation.
Initially granted LPL clearance, but decision reversed
Initially, the BCB had rested Taskin Ahmed and Litton Das for the T20 series against Zimbabwe so that they could participate in the entire Lanka Premier League (LPL). The board had even issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to both players for this purpose.
However, Mustafizur's sudden injury forced the board to change its decision.Speaking to Cricbuzz, the board's chief selector, Habibul Bashar, said:
"We had initially granted Taskin and Litton permission to skip the Zimbabwe T20 series because they already held NOCs to play in the LPL. However, since Mustafizur has been ruled out due to injury, we have included Taskin in the T20 squad. He will join the LPL only after completing the T20 series against Zimbabwe."
Schedule of Bangladeshi players in the LPL
The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 17 to August 8, featuring several prominent Bangladeshi players across different teams:
- Jaffna Kings: Taskin Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan.
- Galle Gallants: Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
- Colombo Kaps: Hasan Mahmud (currently playing for Kent in the T20 Blast, he will join before the tournament begins).
Inclusion of Mohammad Saifuddin for the ODI series
Additionally, all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has been added to the squad to replace Mustafizur for the third and final ODI against Zimbabwe, scheduled for Saturday in Harare. Bangladesh is currently trailing 0-2 in the three-match ODI series; following this, the two teams will face each other in a three-match T20 series.
