Shubman Gill, a young sensation in the Indian batting lineup, hesitated to discuss his conversation with James Anderson, the veteran, following his spectacular six-ball down the ground. Shubman ended his first innings curse in the current Test series against England by smashing a superb century, continuing his good patch in red-ball cricket. The 24-year-old at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala showed incredible confidence in his ability to take on players such as James Anderson throughout his magnificent century.
Shubman launched a powerful charge down the ground to loft Anderson straight up into the air for a maximum off the second ball of the 34th over. Following that shot, there was some joking between the two players.
Shubman requested to see the conversation after the game, but the star hitter wouldn't give it up.
After the game, Shubman told reporters, 'I think it would be better for both of us to keep that chat between us.'
The gifted hitter attacked Anderson by sprinting down the ground for a maximum, opening up on his approach.
'I thought the ball wasn't doing much at that time and instinctively I wanted to go over the top and put some pressure on him,' he said.
But in the end, Anderson was the only one who defeated him for 110 with a flawless delivery. Gill acknowledged that he could have made the century something special.
'I feel good every time I go out to bat and today I missed out on that ball,' he stated.
Lakhwinder, Shubman's father, was also present at the HPCA to see the Indian star make a spectacular knock. Throughout his son's time in the middle, Lakhwinder rose up with pride to congratulate him on reaching his century. The 24-year-old spent 150 balls in the centre of the bat, smashing 10 fours and five sixes.
Gill disclosed that he was thrilled to realize his father's ambition of turning him into a cricket.
It was the first time I had ever heard him mention his father while watching me play (in a global game). 'I hope he is proud of my effort today—playing Test cricket was his vision,' he declared.
