SA vs AUS ODI: Blow for South Africa ahead of Australia series; Kwena Maphaka ruled out due to injury; Lizaad Williams called up

South Africa has suffered another major setback just before the three-match ODI series against Australia. Young fast bowler Kwena Maphaka has been ruled out of the entire ODI series after sustaining a right hamstring injury during a training session.

Maphaka will undergo medical assessments to determine the severity of the injury. Meanwhile, South African selectors have named fast bowler Lizaad Williams as his replacement. He is set to join the squad a day before the first ODI in Durban.

Proteas team grappling with fast bowler injuries

Kwena Maphaka's withdrawal is a serious concern for South Africa, as several key fast bowlers are already sidelined due to injuries:

• Lungi Ngidi: Ruled out of the series after suffering a hamstring injury while playing for the Titans.
• Kagiso Rabada and Ottniel Baartman: Both fast bowlers are dealing with hamstring issues and are not part of the squad.
• Nandre Burger: Currently in the recovery phase due to a back issue.
• Lutho Sipamla: Also on the long list of injured bowlers.

ODI and Test series schedule

Following the three-match ODI series between Australia and South Africa, a three-match Test series will also be played.
