BCCI Annual General Meeting: The 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to be held on September 18, 2026, at the Board's office in Mumbai. This event marks a move to add a new and historic chapter to the landscape of Indian cricket.
A proposal to grant associate membership of the BCCI to the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been included as a key agenda item for the meeting. The BCCI has sent notices to all member associations seeking their views on the matter.
Cricket fever to reach Andaman and Nicobar
Among the country's eight Union Territories, teams from regions like Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, and Chandigarh regularly participate in BCCI domestic tournaments. However, the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago comprising over 800 islands has so far lacked an official team recognized by the BCCI.
The local Andaman and Nicobar Cricket Association has hitherto only overseen regional competitions. This marks the first time the country's premier cricket body is considering formally taking control of the island group's cricketing structure.
Paving the way for participation in major tournaments
If this proposal is approved at the AGM, it will yield several significant benefits. Andaman and Nicobar will form its own official team, gaining the opportunity to compete in national tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Simultaneously, the BCCI will develop cricket academies, coaching facilities, and stadiums in the region, helping to hone the skills of local players. Currently, 38 teams participate in BCCI domestic tournaments; this number could increase following this decision.
Decisions on Key Issues
A final decision regarding the nomination of the official representing India at the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be taken during this meeting. Additionally the General Body will elect two representatives to the IPL Governing Council.
Meanwhile, a representative from the Indian Cricketers' Association (ICA) will also be formally inducted into the IPL Governing Council.
