Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 80 took him past the previous record held by Manish Pandey.
Pandey had scored an unbeaten 79 against South Africa in Centurion in 2018 while batting at No. 5 or lower. Ishan's 80* has now become the highest individual T20I score by an Indian batter from that position or below.

Ishan reached the record with an aggressive yet controlled innings against Sri Lanka's spin-heavy bowling attack.
The 46-ball knock featured five sixes and four fours, with Ishan remaining unbeaten until the end of India's innings.
His performance was particularly important after India lost wickets in the middle overs and needed a strong finish.
Yuvraj, Hardik and Rinku Fall Behind Ishan Kishan
The new record pushed several prominent Indian T20 batters down the list.
Yuvraj Singh had scored an unbeaten 77 against Australia in Rajkot in 2013. Hardik Pandya made 71* against Australia in Mohali in 2022, while Rinku Singh has two entries after scoring 69* against Afghanistan in 2024 and 68* against South Africa in 2023.

Five Sixes and Four Fours Power Ishan's Stunning Knock
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first in the semifinal. The conditions offered assistance to spin, and the Sri Lankan team used its spinners extensively.
