The coming days are set to be truly special for Indian football fans. They will witness matches against some of the world's best teams, and as part of this, the Indian men's football team will face the two-time world champions, Uruguay. This international friendly match between the two teams will be played on October 6 at Kolkata's renowned Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

Notably, just three days before the match against Uruguay, the Indian team will face five-time world champions Brazil at the same venue. This will give football fans in Kolkata the opportunity to see two global football powerhouses up close during the same FIFA window.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced a match against Uruguay for August 27. According to the AIFF, this will be India's third high-profile friendly match during the FIFA international windows scheduled for September and October. Prior to this, the Indian team is set to face Panama on September 26 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Thus, teams like Panama, Brazil, and Uruguay—all of which have previously participated in the World Cup—will visit India during this single FIFA window.

Uruguay is currently ranked 20th in the FIFA rankings. The team won the World Cup title in 1930 and 1950 and reached the semi-finals in 1954, 1970, and 2010. However, Uruguay's journey in the 2026 World Cup ended in the group stage. Diego Forlán, the head coach of the current Uruguayan team, also has a connection to Indian football; he played for Mumbai City FC in 2016.
The match against Panama on September 26 will be special for Team India. The Indian team will play in Bengaluru for the first time since the 2023 SAFF Championship; it was at this very venue that India defeated Kuwait to clinch the SAFF Championship title. Subsequently, Team India will tour New Zealand in November, where they will play two friendly matches on November 12 and 15.
