Delhi Police has taken action against the alleged black marketing and illegal resale of cricket tickets during the India vs Afghanistan T20I series. A total of 19 people were arrested in connection with alleged unauthorized ticket sales around the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The three-match India vs Afghanistan T20I series was played from September 13 to September 17, with all three matches taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. India won all three games to complete a 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan.

Delhi Police Takes Action Against Illegal Cricket Ticket Sales

Delhi Police launched a special drive to prevent the illegal sale and resale of cricket match tickets during the series. The operation was conducted around the dates of the three matches, with police registering 13 FIRs in connection with alleged ticket black marketing.

A total of 19 people were arrested, while police recovered 71 cricket match tickets and Rs 7,400 in cash during the operation.

According to the police, intelligence inputs, discreet surveillance and decoy operations were used to identify people allegedly involved in the unauthorized sale of tickets.

19 Arrested, 71 Tickets Recovered in Ticket Black Marketing Case

The crackdown resulted in the recovery of 71 tickets from the people arrested in different cases. Police also recovered Rs 7,400 in cash, which was allegedly linked to the ticket-selling activity.

The operation focused on areas around the Arun Jaitley Stadium where unauthorized ticket sellers were suspected of approaching spectators.

Delhi Police increased surveillance around several locations near the stadium, including Delhi Gate Metro Station, M.G. Road, BSZ Road and JPN Park.

Police officials monitored these areas to identify people attempting to sell cricket tickets without authorization.

According to the police, some individuals allegedly obtained tickets at lower prices and then attempted to sell them to fans at higher rates. Such unauthorized resale can become more common when tickets are no longer available through official channels.

How Delhi Police Caught Suspected Illegal Ticket Sellers

As part of the operation, Delhi Police used intelligence gathering and discreet monitoring to identify suspected ticket sellers.

Officers also reportedly acted as decoy customers to verify allegations of illegal ticket sales. The operation helped police identify and take action against people allegedly involved in the resale of match tickets.

September 14: 5 Arrested With 29 Match Tickets

On September 14, police registered four FIRs in connection with alleged ticket black marketing.

Five people were arrested during the action. Police recovered 29 match tickets and Rs 3,400 in cash from them.

September 15: 10 Arrested as Police Recover 31 Tickets

The biggest action took place on September 15, when six FIRs were registered.

Police arrested 10 people and recovered 31 cricket match tickets along with Rs 4,000 in cash.

The action was carried out on the day of the second India vs Afghanistan T20I match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

September 17: 4 Arrested With 11 Cricket Tickets

On September 17, the date of the third and final T20I, police registered three FIRs.

Four people were arrested, while 11 match tickets were recovered during the operation.

Overall, the three sets of action resulted in 19 arrests, 13 FIRs, 71 recovered tickets and Rs 7,400 in cash.

Ticket Black Marketing Case: What Action Will Accused Face?

Delhi Police said legal proceedings in these cases will be carried out under Section 4(C) of the Delhi Prevention of Touting and Malpractices Against Tourists Act, 2010.

The action is aimed at curbing unauthorized ticket sales and preventing cricket fans from being charged inflated prices by alleged ticket touts.

While Delhi Police was cracking down on alleged ticket black marketing, India dominated Afghanistan on the cricket field.

India won the first T20I by seven wickets and repeated the same winning margin in the second match. In the third T20I, India registered a massive 127-run victory to complete a 3-0 series sweep.
