Gill and Gambhir Hoist the Tricolour in Galle
The Indian team celebrated the lead-up to the 80th year of independence in Galle; the BCCI shared a video of the event. In the footage, Shubman Gill can be seen hoisting the Tricolour.
This video was recorded just before the start of the Galle Test. After hoisting the Tricolour, Team India's players and support staff sang the national anthem together.
Team India's Historic Test in Galle
After celebrating Independence Day in Galle, Team India stepped out to play its first Test against Sri Lanka—a match of historic significance for the team. This marks the Indian team's 600th Test match. Shubman Gill is not only captaining the side in this milestone 600th Test but is also playing a Test match in Galle for the first time.
India Becomes the Third Team to Play 600 Tests
In the history of cricket, only Australia and England have played more Test matches than India. This makes India the third team to reach the milestone of 600 Test matches. In the 599 Tests played previously, India won 186 and lost 188, while 224 matches ended in a draw.
India won its 300th, 400th, and 500th Test matches. Consequently, there are high hopes that Team India will script a victory in this 600th Test as well.
