IND vs SL Test Series: Sri Lanka Cricket announces dates; India's Test tour to begin on August 15
Big news has emerged for Indian cricket fans. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially confirmed the dates for India's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. As previously reported by Cricbuzz, Team India will play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, commencing on August 15.
This Test series will be part of the current ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Currently, India and Sri Lanka occupy the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, on the WTC points table, making this series crucial for both teams to remain in contention for the final.
First Test tour of Sri Lanka since 2017
The Indian team is set to play a Test series on Sri Lankan soil for the first time since 2017. The schedule for the tour is as follows:
- First Test Match: To be played at the historic Galle venue from August 15 to 19.
- Second Test Match: To be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), Colombo, from August 23 to 27.
Uncertainty remains regarding the T20 series?
Earlier, there had been discussions between the cricket boards of both nations (BCCI and SLC) about including a three-match T20 (T20I) series alongside the Test matches. However, the official press release issued by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) makes no mention of these T20 matches. This implies that, for now, the tour will consist solely of a Test series.
