IND vs SL 1st Test Highlights: The Indian cricket team made a spectacular start to their tour of Sri Lanka by handing the hosts a crushing 165-run defeat in the first Test match played at Galle. Marking their historic 600th Test match with a memorable performance, Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Chasing a massive target of 372 runs for victory, Sri Lanka's second innings folded for 206 runs.

This victory marks India's first win on Sri Lankan soil in nine years (the previous win was at Pallekele in August 2017). Furthermore, India has extended its unbeaten streak in Sri Lanka dating back to August 2015 by securing its sixth consecutive Test victory there.

Manav Suthar's 10-Wicket Haul Powers India to Historic Win

Young spinner Manav Suthar emerged as the standout hero of this historic victory.

Weaving his spin magic across both innings of the match, he sent a total of 10 batsmen back to the pavilion:

  • First Innings: 4 wickets
  • Second Innings: 6 wickets (A magnificent performance)
  • Turning Point of the Match: Manav claimed 4 wickets in a spell of just 10 balls during the second innings.

Having previously taken 7 wickets in his debut Test against Afghanistan, this marks the first 10-wicket haul of Manav Suthar's international Test career.

Devdutt Padikkal's Brilliant 167 Sets Up 372-Run Target

The Indian team maintained its dominance in the match with both bat and ball:

  • First Innings (India): Powered by Devdutt Padikkal's marathon knock of 167 runs, India posted a massive total of 462 runs.
  • First Innings (Sri Lanka): In reply, the Sri Lankan team was bowled out for 284, handing India a substantial lead.
  • Second Innings (India): India managed to score 193 runs in their second innings, setting Sri Lanka a target of 372 runs for victory.

Sri Lanka Bundled Out for 206 Despite Sonal and Dhananjaya's Fightback

Chasing a target of 372 runs, the Sri Lankan team appeared helpless against the Indian bowlers and was bowled out for 206 in 77.4 overs. For the hosts, Sonal Dinusha (84 runs) and captain Dhananjaya de Silva (59 runs) put up a spirited fight, but they could not save the team from defeat against Manav Suthar's lethal bowling.
