IND vs IRE T20I, Cricket Ireland announced a 15-member squad for the T20I series against India. Three matches between the two teams will be played in Malahide from August 18 to 23. Ireland has recently qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Two players have returned to the team for the series against India. All-rounders Fionn Hand and Gareth Delany have been selected. Delany is making a comeback after a wrist injury.
The upcoming series is Ireland's first T20 competition since securing T20 World Cup qualification. Ireland men's national selector Andrew White said: “The recent qualifying campaign in Scotland was the first step in our strategic plan for the T20 World Cup next June. We have about 15 T20 Internationals scheduled between now and the World Cup. It is therefore important that we use each of these to work on areas identified by the coaching team.
Ireland's team has performed commendably in recent years and has given competition to big teams. Star batsmen like captain Paul Stirling, former captain Andrew Balbirnie and Harry Tector are present in the team. While Stirling and Balbirnie have vast experience in T20 cricket, Tector has made a mark in a short span of time.
32-year-old Sterling has scored 3397 runs in 129 T20 Internationals at an average of 29.03, including one century and 23 half-centuries. Sterling is currently at number five in terms of scoring the most runs in T20 Internationals. On the other hand, Andrew Balbirnie has 1965 runs in 93 T20 matches at an average of 23.11. Tector, 23, has also scored more than a thousand runs in T20 Internationals.
