Former South African batter Colin Ingram retires from cricket; to take up a new coaching role at Glamorgan
Former explosive South African left-handed batter Colin Ingram has announced his retirement from all formats of professional cricket at the age of 41. He bids farewell to the sport nearly 13 years after his last international match.
However, Ingram is not stepping away from cricket entirely. He will take on a new coaching role at Glamorgan, the renowned Welsh county club for which he has played for the past 11 years.
Colin Ingram's emotional message on retirement
Announcing his retirement via social media, Colin Ingram wrote:
My journey as a player has now come to an end, but I hope to positively influence the game and inspire players to perform at their best while enjoying their own journeys. I dreamed big, worked hard, created memories, and cherished every moment. Now is the right time to step off the field, but I am incredibly excited to contribute to the club in a new role.
A magnificent 22-year career and records
- First-Class Record: Ingram's 22-year career began with the Free State team in 2004. He scored 10,683 runs in 159 First-Class matches. Even in his final season, he amassed 628 runs—including two centuries—in 12 matches for Glamorgan.
- Scored a century on debut: He made headlines by scoring a century on his ODI debut for South Africa (against Zimbabwe in 2010).
