According to a PTI report, former chief selector Ajit Agarkar was not in favor of Bhuvi's return. He wanted to give opportunities to young players with an eye on the future; consequently, Bhuvi was overlooked despite performing well in the IPL.

Central Zone Selector RP Singh Advocated for Bhuvi

Central Zone selector RP Singh had recommended Bhuvi's name, but the decision was deferred due to a lack of support from Agarkar.

Doors Opened After Agarkar's Tenure Ended

Once Agarkar's tenure ended in September, interim chairman Pragyan Ojha and the selection committee prioritized Bhuvi's experience. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the selectors needed a reliable swing bowler.

Bhuvi's return was driven by his strong form in the IPL:

  • IPL 2025: 17 wickets
  • IPL 2026: 28 wickets

His ability to swing the new ball both ways and take wickets during the powerplay reopened the doors to Team India for him.
