In the third quarter, Spain ramped up the pressure on Germany and launched repeated attacks. During this period, Spain made 10 attempts on the German goal but struggled to breach the German defense. The match's only goal was scored by Michael Struthoff in the 44th minute. Germany attacked with excellent coordination; Michael converted a pass from the right flank into a goal, giving his team a 1-0 lead. On the other hand, Spain had reached the final after a long hiatus; the team had last played in a World Cup final in 1998. Although this was their third final overall, their dream of becoming world champions remained unfulfilled once again.

Earlier, on August 29, Argentina had ended the dominance of three-time champions the Netherlands by winning the Women's Hockey World Cup title.
