The FIFA 2026 tournament is set to begin today, June 11. A total of 48 teams will participate in this event, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Ahead of the tournament, FIFA has announced the prize money for this edition.

This year's prize money is significantly higher than that of the previous tournament. The 2022 FIFA World Cup was held in Qatar, with Argentina emerging as the winner. Compared to the 2022 tournament, the prize money for 2026 has seen an increase of approximately 50 percent. The total prize money for the FIFA World Cup 2026 is $655 million, equivalent to ₹6,241 crore in Indian rupees. In contrast, the prize money for the 2022 FIFA World Cup was $440 million.

When compared to the prize money won by Team India in the T20 World Cup, the FIFA World Cup 2026 prize money is approximately 60 times higher. India hosted the T20 World Cup, and Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal role in Team India's victory.

India became the first country to win the T20 World Cup twice consecutively. Additionally, India was the first team to win the trophy on home soil. The total prize money for the T20 World Cup was $11.25 million, of which India received $2.63 million—an amount equivalent to ₹24.28 crore.
