ENG vs PAK: Double blow for England; Sam Curran out for the entire summer, Will Jacks undergoes appendix surgery
The England cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the upcoming Test series against Pakistan and the remaining matches of the home season. Star all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the entire English summer due to a groin injury, delaying his comeback to Test cricket. Meanwhile, all-rounder Will Jacks has undergone surgery for appendicitis, rendering him unavailable for selection as well.
Sam Curran to undergo surgery; wait for Test return extended
Following Ben Stokes' retirement, Sam Curran was viewed as the ideal replacement for him in the Test team. However, he has been plagued by injuries throughout the year. Curran is set to undergo groin surgery on Friday, which will keep him out of action for the remainder of the English season.
- Sam Curran made his Test debut in 2018 at the age of 19 but has not played a Test match since 2021.
- According to selector Marcus North, there were plans to field Curran in the third and deciding Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston starting September 9, but his return has now been postponed due to the surgery.
- He has also been ruled out of crucial County Championship matches for Surrey.
Will Jacks undergoes appendix surgery; eyes on Sri Lanka series
Surrey and England all-rounder Will Jacks has recently undergone successful surgery for appendicitis. He was in contention as a spin-all-rounder option for the Test series between England and Pakistan—a role for which Dan Lawrence is currently being entrusted with the number 6 position.
According to an official statement from the ECB, the board will monitor Jacks' recovery. After missing the Test series against Pakistan, his fitness will now be assessed for the white-ball series (3 T20Is and 3 ODIs) against Sri Lanka, starting on September 15.
