Fans at Sydney Cricket Ground, David Warner's home ground, gave him a thunderous ovation as he stepped out to play. Warner is scheduled to retire after the current third Test against Pakistan. Waving his bat in the air, Warner appreciated the fans' gesture.

The Pakistani players also congratulated the 37-year-old great batter and gave him a ceremonial guard of respect. But Warner was greeted with a heartfelt hug from Usman Khawaja, his opening partner and boyhood pal before he ever entered the field.

After Warner and Khawaja batted for just one over, the umpire quickly ruled that Australia was ahead 6/0.

Pakistan recovered from a precarious position earlier on Day 1 to score 313 thanks to half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, and Aamer Jamal.

After choosing to bat, the visitors, down 96/5, counterattacked to annoy the Australians at the SCG.

Following a collapse in the top order, Rizwan struck a rapid 88 off 103 balls, followed by a determined 82 off 97 from Jamal at number nine, and 53 off 67 from Salman to offer the tourists some hope.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, got five wickets for 61 in the series, his third consecutive five-wicket haul.

Australia had a day of excitement that ended in frustration as Pakistan came back from a disastrous start to save their side.

Defying Australia's assault, Rizwan and Salman ignited the comeback with a passionate 94-run partnership.

After being benched for the opening Test, Rizwan hammered ten fours and two sixes from 103 balls before falling victim to a legside trap created by Cummins.

After recording the highest individual score of the series for a batsman from Pakistan, he top-edged a pull shot for Josh Hazlewood to grab the catch at fine leg.

Salman onto the field and scored fifty runs before Travis Head caught him off Mitchell Starc.

Before losing to Nathan Lyon, Jamal maintained his comeback by recording his best Test score.
