The Pakistan cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of upcoming overseas tours. The team's promising young opening batsman, Abdullah Fazal, has been ruled out of both the ongoing two-match Test series against the West Indies and the subsequent three-match Test series against England due to a severe lower back injury.
Injured During Training Session at Brian Lara Cricket Academy

The talented 23-year-old batsman sustained the injury during an intense training session at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy ground in Tarouba, Trinidad. Following the injury, he underwent a medical examination and an MRI scan. Subsequently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) medical panel confirmed that Fazal would need to undergo a rehabilitation process to fully recover, rendering him unavailable for both upcoming Test series.
Impressive Debut Series & Recent Warm-Up Form
Abdullah Fazal's absence is considered a significant blow to Pakistan's batting lineup, given the brilliant start he made to his international cricket career. The young left-handed batsman, who made his Test debut against Bangladesh in May, scored half-centuries in both innings of his very first match. He had greatly impressed the selectors by amassing a total of 141 runs across his first two Test matches.
Moreover, he appeared to be in excellent form during the warm-up match against the West Indies Select XI earlier this week, playing unbeaten innings of 50 and 48 runs across the two innings.
Captain Babar Azam Reacts to Abdullah Fazal's Injury
Pakistan captain Babar Azam expressed deep disappointment over the young opener's injury and wished him a speedy recovery.
Babar highly praised Fazal's talent and strong mental resilience.According to the ICC, Babar Azam said:
“I wish Abdullah the best and hope he returns to the field very soon. The ability and talent he possesses are truly inspiring to me. He was quite confident right from his debut series, and his morale was very high.”
