The Bangladesh cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Australia. Their fiery fast bowler, Nahid Rana, has been ruled out of the entire series due to injury. Additionally, it appears highly unlikely that star wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das and left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam will play in the first Test match scheduled for Darwin.
Nahid Rana ruled out of the entire series (Grade 2 Side Strain)
An official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed to Cricbuzz that Nahid Rana will not be able to travel for the Australia tour due to his injury.
- Cause of injury: Rana sustained a left-side strain during the second T20 match against Zimbabwe earlier this month.
- Recovery time: Medical scans have confirmed a Grade 2 side strain. According to doctors, it will take 6 to 8 weeks for him to fully recover, effectively ruling him out of the entire Test series.
Litton Das and Shoriful Islam may miss the first Test
It is unlikely that Bangladesh will have the services of two other key players for the opening match of the series:
- Litton Das:
- Litton, who is battling a left calf injury, traveled to Singapore to consult a specialist and underwent PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) treatment.
- He is set to begin running and conditioning training on July 28. His fitness test is scheduled for around August 13, making it clear that he will only be able to return for the second Test.
- Shoriful Islam:
- Shoriful sustained a Grade 1 hamstring injury during the Zimbabwe series.
- He will resume bowling on July 29, and a fitness assessment will be conducted on August 12. Upon receiving fitness clearance, he will be available for selection directly for the second Test match.
