The coming months are crucial for the Bangladesh women's cricket team, as they are set to compete in two major back-to-back tournaments. Bangladesh has announced its squad in preparation for these events. Nigar Sultana Joty has once again been entrusted with the captaincy, while Nahida Akter will serve as the vice-captain. Top-order batter Sharmin Sultana has made a return to the squad.

Sharmin Sultana last played for Bangladesh in May 2026. She has been included in the team in place of Taj Nehar, who was part of the squad during the previous T20 World Cup.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the ACC Women's Asia Cup 2026 and the 20th Asian Games to be held in Japan. Nigar Sultana recently captained the team at the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, where Bangladesh secured victories against Pakistan and the Netherlands. The team's focus now shifts to the Asia Cup and the Asian Games. Bangladesh will begin its Asia Cup campaign against Indonesia on August 31. Pakistan has also recently announced its squad for the Asia Cup.

A Blend of Experience and Young Talent

Bangladesh has assembled a squad that strikes a fine balance between experience and young talent. Sharmin Sultana, who made her T20 International debut in May, has been included as a top-order batter; she also brings ODI experience, having played 16 matches in the format to date. Sobhana Mostary and Fargana Hoque—who provided strong starts at the top of the order during the Women's T20 World Cup—have also retained their places in the squad.

Additionally, Shorna Akter is part of the team; she played a pivotal role in Bangladesh's victories against the Netherlands and Pakistan during the T20 World Cup, with her unbeaten innings contributing significantly to those wins.

The Asia Cup will begin on August 31

All-rounder Ritu Moni is also part of the team. Marufa Akter will spearhead the pace attack, supported by Moni and Fariha Islam Trishna. In the spin department, options include vice-captain Nahida Akter alongside Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan, and Sultana Khatun. Bangladesh's Asia Cup campaign will kick off on August 31 with a match against Indonesia. Subsequently, the team will participate in the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 17 to 22, 2026.
