The Asian Games 2026 will begin on September 19 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and continue until October 4. Another young name expected to attract attention is Philippines tennis star Alexandra Eala. Although she is now 21, Eala established herself on the international circuit at a relatively young age.
She recently created history by winning the Washington Open, becoming the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA title. Her breakthrough has generated huge interest in tennis in the Philippines and inspired more young players to take up the sport.
Asian Games 2026 Accommodation: Athletes to Stay on Cruise Ship and in Temporary Homes
The organisers have made unique arrangements to accommodate thousands of athletes and officials during the Asian Games.
Around 4,000 to 5,000 athletes are expected to stay aboard the Italian cruise ship Costa Serena. The ship has hundreds of cabins along with swimming pools, restaurants and other facilities.
Another 2,000 athletes and officials are expected to stay in temporary accommodation built in the Garden Pier area of Nagoya. Hotels will accommodate the remaining participants.
Some events, including swimming, diving and equestrian competitions, will be held in Tokyo, meaning separate accommodation arrangements will also be required there.
Asian Games 2026: New Sports and Events Set to Attract Global Attention
The Nagoya Asian Games will feature several popular sports, including athletics, swimming, football, kabaddi, sepak takraw and wushu.
The tournament will also introduce or feature newer events such as mixed martial arts, padel, teqball and virtual taekwondo. Esports will also return after making its debut at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The inclusion of newer sports is expected to attract younger audiences and give the Asian Games a broader appeal.
Japan Set to Host Asian Games for the First Time Since 1994
The 2026 Asian Games will mark Japan’s return as host after more than three decades. The country last hosted the continental sporting event in 1994.
With the opening date approaching, excitement is building around the Nagoya edition. While India will be targeting another cricket gold medal, the performances of young stars such as Vaibhav Suryavanshi and 13-year-old Yu Zidi could become some of the biggest stories of Asian Games 2026.
