BBL 2026-27: Brisbane Heat signs England star all-rounder Tom Curran

Brisbane Heat has made a significant move ahead of the upcoming 2026-27 Big Bash League (BBL) season. The team has added experienced English all-rounder Tom Curran to its squad. He becomes Brisbane Heat's first overseas player for the 2026-27 season. Previously, he has played for the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars in the tournament.

Vast T20 cricket experience

Although Tom Curran has not featured for the England national team in the last five years, he remains in high demand across T20 leagues worldwide. His key strengths are tight bowling during the death overs and explosive batting in the lower order.

  • With experience spanning nearly 300 T20 matches, Curran boasts a career strike rate of 145.89 and has claimed 297 wickets.
  • The 31-year-old, who has played 52 BBL matches to date, recorded his best league performance last season while playing for the Melbourne Stars, taking 4 wickets for 10 runs.
  • He recently represented 'MI London' in The Hundred and displayed excellent form with the ball in the new European T20 tournament.

Coach James Hopes heaps praise

Brisbane Heat head coach James Hopes highly praised Tom Curran, stating:

"Tom is a fiercely competitive player. From my experience coaching him at Delhi Capitals, I can say that his energy and focus lift the morale of the other players. His batting style is quite similar to Michael Neser's; he can anchor an innings according to the situation while also scoring runs quickly. His understanding of Australian grounds and pitches will prove extremely beneficial for our team at the Gabba."
