Amit Mishra Returns Home to Delhi Capitals, Takes Charge as New Spin Bowling Coach
Leg-spinner Amit Mishra, one of the most successful and experienced bowlers in the history of the IPL, has made a homecoming to the Delhi Capitals franchise. This time, however, he returns not as a player, but in the role of the team's new spin bowling coach. This responsibility has been entrusted to him as part of significant changes made by the franchise to its coaching staff.
A Lineup of Stalwarts in the Coaching Staff
Delhi Capitals has implemented several major changes to its coaching staff for the upcoming season. Amit Mishra joins a list of former cricketers who have recently been handed key roles by the franchise:
- Sourav Ganguly (Head Coach)
- Yuvraj Singh (Assistant Coach)
- Chaminda Vaas (Fast Bowling Coach)
- Amit Mishra (Spin Bowling Coach)
Amit Mishra’s IPL Journey and Records
Amit Mishra boasts a long and illustrious 16-season history in the IPL. Between the inaugural 2008 season and 2024, he played a total of 162 matches. Interestingly, he began his IPL career with this very franchise—then known as 'Delhi Daredevils'—and spent 10 seasons of his career with the team.
- 174 Wickets: Mishra has a total of 174 wickets to his name in the IPL, with his best bowling performance being 5 wickets for 17 runs (5/17).
- A Unique Record of Three Hat-tricks: Amit Mishra is the only player in the history of the IPL to have taken three hat-tricks in the tournament. He achieved these three hat-tricks while playing for different teams: Delhi Daredevils (2008), Deccan Chargers (2011), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2013).
Young Spinners to Benefit
The addition of Amit Mishra to the coaching staff is expected to be highly beneficial for the young spinners at Delhi Capitals. Young bowlers—such as left-arm wrist-spinner Zeeshan Ansari (who recently joined the team as part of a trade deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad), as well as leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed—will be able to take full advantage of Mishra’s experience.
