Reports indicate that Ajit Agarkar is set to step down as Team India's chief selector. The selection committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday to pick the squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies could be his final meeting in this role.

Ajit Agarkar's contract is set to expire on October 4. Although there were earlier reports suggesting he might receive a one-year extension and continue in the role until the 2027 ODI World Cup, the situation has changed completely in light of recent developments.
According to the news agency PTI, top BCCI officials have not contacted Agarkar regarding a contract extension. This lack of communication has further fueled speculation that he will step down from the position.
Agarkar to Send Thank-You Note to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia
Citing sources and PTI reports, it has been revealed that Agarkar has indicated to his close associates that, after finalizing the Indian squad for the West Indies series, he intends to send a 'thank-you note' via email to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has not yet officially clarified its stance on the matter, nor has it given any indications regarding the selection of a new chief selector or future plans.

Ajit Agarkar was appointed as Team India's chief selector in July 2023. His three-year tenure was marked by successes:

Despite this impressive record, some media reports claim that certain senior BCCI officials were not entirely satisfied with Agarkar regarding specific strategic issues and decisions concerning Rohit Sharma.
